Fall Quarterly Report

GOALS

  1. To work to develop the first Western Region Venturing Youth Cabinet to support the Western Region.
  2. To lend support to the Councils of the Western Region.
  3. To consider and promote Region wide activities and events.
  4. To promote Venturing Advancement at all opportunities and increase the awareness of Venturing Awards and Recognitions.
  5. To provide information and do whatever I can to help National Venturing in their support for the growth of the program in both membership and units.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  1. Drafted a work in progress for of the first official Area Venturing President structure for the Western Region including detailed job descriptions and plan for implementation.
  2. Have made contact with members of over half of the Western Region's Councils.
  3. Organized, ran, and completed a regionally attended Venturing event.
  4. Was featured in the September/October 2008 issue of the Southwest Scouter.
  5. Spoke about Venturing opportunities, advancement, and programs to every crew I served as a Ranger for, as well as many others, while working at the Philmont Scout Ranch this summer.
  6. Completed a light survey, with about 1400 participants contributing, of Venturing’s recognition in common knowledge within members of the BSA while working at the Philmont Scout Ranch this summer.

Attended the Western Region Venturing Task Force meeting at the Western Region office in Tempe, Arizona

Spoke on Venturing to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at the opening program for the LVAC’s annual Scout Exposition

  • May 3

Spoke to Scouts and Scouters about Venturing while working the Venturing booth during the LVAC's annual Scout Exposition

  • May 9

Cut and donated 13 inches of my hair to help benefit children with cancer, which was a goal I set out to accomplish over two and a half years before this date.

Attended and presented at the National BSA Annual Meetings in San Diego, California

Toured the International Scouting Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada

Attended and presented at the LVACs Venturing Officers Association meeting

Arrived at the Philmont Scout Ranch to begin work as a Ranger for the summer

Attended the National Venturing Cabinet Orientation in Dallas, Texas

Attended the National Council Venturing Reception in honor of Venturing's 10th Anniversary

Interviewed about Venturing and Venturing's Tenth Anniversary for the Phil News, a weekly newsletter sent to all Philmont Staff at the Ranch

Attended and presented at Venturing week at the Philmont Training Center

Attended and chaired the planning meeting for the LVAC’s Ultimate Venturing Challenge (UVC)
